The grapes for this elegant red wine are grown on the Quinta do Pégo estate in the Douro Valley in Portugal, whose land is classified in group A. The wine is produced by winemaker Wouter Pienaar. The yield is low and only the finest grapes have been used for the wine. The grapes have been harvested at optimum ripeness during the last week of September, and only selected red yeast strain is used. The wine is produced from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão grapes. 80% of the wine has been wood matured for 10 months in new French oak barrels from Allier. 20% of the wine has been matured in stainless steel tanks for 12 months. Afterwards the wine has been bottle aged for 6 months before release. This unique red wine has a deep luscious ruby red colour. It is full-bodied with plum, berry, licorice and chocolate flavours with vanilla oakiness and has strong tannin structure, well-integrated wood character and a long and pleasant finish. The wine is especially suitable with red meats, game and cheese. This is indeed an extraordinairy, unfiltered red wine, which will improve with bottle ageing and has a good maturation potential.
