Quinta do Pégo is a vineyard situated on the way from Regua to Pinhao - approximately 3 km before Pinhao on the right hand - in the Douro Valley in Portugal. Quinta do Pégo is situated 138 m. above the surface of the Douro River and the vineyards are situated up to 350 m. above the surface of the Douro River. Without doubt it is one of the most beautifully situated Quintas in the Douro Valley. Since January 2000, Quinta do Pégo has been owned 50% by AMKA and since September 2003 Quinta do Pégo has been owned 100% by AMKA who is in charge of the whole project. Quinta do Pégo owns an area of approximately 33 ha. - approximately 30 ha. is planted with vines. The land is classified in group A, which is the absolute best group. This port has been produced by Rozès’ Wine Maker Manuel Henrique and consultant Wouter Pienaar. The grapes for the port (70% Touriga Nacional, 20% Touriga Franca and 10% Tinta Cão) come from the old vines, which were on the Quinta's vineyards, when the present owners took over the Quinta. It is a wonderful Vintage port of the finest quality. A warm and sunny summer has resulted in perfectly ripened grapes and a powerful and concentrated Port. It has a beautiful and intense ruby-red colour, delicate bouquet of dried fruits, plums and a touch of wild flowers, elegant, full-bodied and well-balanced taste as well as soft tannins and a lingering and very pleasant aftertaste. This port ought to be served chilled and is perfect as an ”after-dinner-drink” or together with strong cheese, chocolate and dessers, but it is also perfect on its own. Quinta do Pégo Vintage Port 2006 has been bottled in 15.000 bottles of 75 cl. - 5 out of 6 points in EkstraBladet, 7th November 2009 - Gold at Wine Masters Challenge 2009 - 5 out of 6 stars in Fyens Stiftstidende 24th January 2009 - 5 out of 5 stars and 95 out of 100 points in Vinbladet Dec. 2008/Jan. 2009 - 5 out of 6 stars in Nordjyske Stiftstidende 19th December 2008 - 5 out of 5 stars on www.vinavisen.dk in week 46, 2008
