Quinta do Pégo is a vineyard situated on the way from Regua to Pinhao - approximately 3 km before Pinhao on the right hand - in the Douro Valley in Portugal. Quinta do Pégo is situated 138 m. above the surface of the Douro River and the vineyards are situated up to 350 m. above the surface of the Douro River. Without doubt it is one of the most beautifully situated quintas in the Douro Valley. Since January 2000, Quinta do Pégo has been owned 50% by AMKA and since September 2003 Quinta do Pégo has been owned 100% by AMKA who is in charge of the whole project. Quinta do Pégo owns an area of approximately 33 ha. - approximately 30 ha. is planted with vines. The land is classified in group A, which is the absolute best group. The Quinta do Pégo project includes - besides of course production of some of the finest and best ports - a total renovation af the old buildings, new production facilities and building of a number of guest rooms on the quinta. After this total renovation, in spring 2009, Quinta do Pégo opened in a totally new shape with hotel. Quinta do Pégo is one of the most beautiful quintas in the Douro Valley - and Hotel Rural Quinta do Pégo is certainly worth a visit. Vintage 2007 has already been praised to the skies of the international wine press and everybody consider vintage 2007 as an absolutely fantastic vintage - comparable to and certainly at the same level as the very best Vintages (1963 - 1977 - 1994). This port has been produced by Rozès’ winemaker Manuel Henrique and consultant Wouter Pienaar. The grapes for the port (Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Vinhas Velhas) come from the old vines, which were on the quinta's vineyards, when the present owners took over the quinta. It is a wonderful Vintage port of the finest quality. Thanks to the perfect weather condistions, Vintage 2007 has obtained a perfect balance combining “rusticity and power” with “elegance and delicacy”. It has a deep intense red colour, delicate and complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, blackberries and plums, full-bodied and well balanced taste with firm but silky tannins and a long, persistent and very nice finish. This port ought to be served chilled and is perfect as an ”after-dinner-drink” or together with strong cheese, chocolate and desserts, but it is also perfect on its own. 16.5 out of 20 points in Revista de Vinhos, December 2009 Type: Semi sweet Residual sugar: App. 103 g./ltr.
